Fairtrade helps small-scaleproducers on plantations in developing countries gain a better position in thesupply chain, enabling them to make a decent living and invest in a sustainable future. The market in which it operates is growing and laws and regulations are rapidly changing. In response, Fairtrade has revised its strategy and changed its way of working to effectively achieve that strategy. Summiteers supported the change to the Agile way of working by gradually rolling out the method within different teams. The philosophy here was that providing knowledge and learning by doing was necessary for further deployment in the organisation. Organising the implementation this way meant that support from Summiteers would gradually decrease. Our approach always consisted of two steps per team. First, we created insight, overview and priority by translating the organisational goals into razor-sharp and manageable results per team. We then helped the team to really understand the way of working and coached them based on behavioural reflections. The execution of the strategy is now well under way and the organisation can carry out the further rollout of the Agile method by itself.
“If you want to achieve behavioural change, it helps to challenge your people from the perspective of people who are not involved in the day-to-day business. It was crucial that Summiteers guided us in this project. I don't know if it would have been as successful without the external perspective.”
